Baracitine is the trade name of solution ready to use, it contains the antibiotic Colistin sulfate to resist and to get rid of the infectious gram+ve and gram-ve bacteria
Indications
Baracitine is indicated for the treatment of Gastrointestinal infections (as Bacterial diarrhea, Enteritis) that are caused by the sensitive bacteria to Colistin Sulfate (E.coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Campylobacter, Serpulina hyodysenteriae) in calves, lambs and poultry
Dosage
– Calves,Lambs: 500,000 IU\10kg b.w twice daily for 3-4 days
– Poultry: 75,000 IU\ 1 liter of drinking water for 3-5 days
Contraindications
– Not to be used in cases of hypersensitivity to Colistine Sulfate
– Not to be used in mature cattle or mature ruminant
Drug Interactions
– Avoid giving Baracitine with Neuromascular agents
Side Effects
– The drug maybe neurotoxic & nephrotoxic at high doses and for long periods
